Toronto Native Anthony Bennett Likely To Visit Kentucky

Jul 31, 2011 11:31 AM

Kentucky has been following Anthony Bennett 6-foot-7, 245-pound Toronto native who starred for CIA Bounce. Bennett, who attends Findlay Prep in Nevada, will be in the incoming class of 2012.

His long list of colleges includes Kentucky, Connecticut, Florida, Georgetown, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Oregon, Florida State, Washington, UNLV, Arizona and Oklahoma.

“I’m wide-open,” he said, noting that he might not pick one until April. “I’ll probably cut it down after AAU, and then I don’t know how many or when I will take my visits.”

Bennett was asked if he would visit Kentucky.

“Yes, probably. Kentucky is a power school and all of the top players want to go there, and they do great. I have heard the fans are crazy, so I want to see the environment.”

Kanter Considering Offers From China

Jul 30, 2011 4:37 PM

Enes Kanter is considering playing professional ball in China next season if the NBA lockout persists.

Kanter's agent, Max Ergul, told The Salt Lake Tribune on Friday that his client has official offers from two Chinese teams.

Ergul does not want Kanter to miss another year of basketball, as he was forced to sit his freshman season at Kentucky.

"It's very interesting stuff," said Ergul, who said he could not reveal the names of the clubs because details of the negotiations are still confidential. "We'll be entertaining those ideas as well as the lockout progresses. He's a ballplayer — he has to play."

Liggins Exploring Overseas Deal

Jul 30, 2011 12:17 PM

DeAndre Liggins was the 53rd overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and remains in the limbo of the lockout without a guaranteed contract.

"We're looking at trying to go overseas possibly," said Liggins of himself and his agent, Henry Thomas. "He's working on that now."

Liggins said he would like a contract that would allow him to return when the NBA lockout ends.

Liggins was asked what would motivate him to play overseas.

"Everything," Liggins said. "For the money, staying in shape, compete. That's everything."

LeBron To Sponsor Hurricanes, Buckeyes, Wildcats

Jul 10, 2011 11:53 AM

The University of Miami men's basketball team will be sporting LeBron James-branded Nike gear this coming season thanks to a sponsorship deal with the Miami Heat superstar, two sources said Friday.

James will also be sponsoring Ohio State and Kentucky.

UM players were told the news by Coach Jim Larranaga on Thursday.

James' publicist, Keith Estabrook, said he wouldn't comment on the matter and directed all questions to Nike, which didn't immediately return an email from the Sun Sentinel.

William Wesley On Hand At LeBron James Skills Academy

Jul 8, 2011 10:15 AM

William Wesley is a longtime and well-documented power-broker who now works with Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

And even though people associated with agents are supposed to be nowhere close to players at an event like the LeBron James Skills Academy, Wesley has spent the better part of tonight sitting in a chair on the court around Kentucky freshmen Anthony Davis and Michael Gilchrist, and within talking and bumping distance of every high school prospect in attendance.

Nike officials allow it to happen.

So it happens.

And Wesley must know just how much it agitates the NCAA. For proof, consider that I was standing with two NCAA officials earlier tonight, just talking and catching up when we were suddenly interrupted by a young man who tapped one of the NCAA officials on the shoulder.

"Excuse me," the young man said. "Wes wanted me to tell you hello."

Incoming Kentucky Recruit Anthony Davis Patterns Game After Durant

Jul 7, 2011 10:31 AM

Five star Kentucky recruit Anthony Davis patterns his game after Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant.

“Entering my junior year (of high school), I was 6-2 or 6-3,” he said. “Then last summer, I sprouted up to 6-10. That’s when all the madness started to happen.”

He doesn’t shoot quite like Durant, who spent one year at Texas before becoming the No. 2 pick in the draft. But he has the same frame and athletic build.

“Me being a guard last year, I still have the same skills (as Durant),” the Chicago native said.

Rivals No. 1 Shabazz Muhammad Set To Visit Kentucky

Jul 6, 2011 6:54 PM

Article body (summary):  Shabazz Muhammad, Rivals' No. 1 player in the high school class of 2012, has a long list of college suitors, but said he'll take his first official visit to Kentucky.

"They have a great class coming in with Mike Gilchrist - we're real good friends - and Marquis Teague," Muhammad said after his first game at the adidas Invitational. "I want to go see those guys and be with the team and go from there."

Muhammad said he admires that Calipari supports "one-and-done" players who play a season in college before turning pro. At UK, Calipari has coached five such players in two seasons.

"I think that's a great thing," Muhammad said. "I think that's why he gets a lot of those guys, because he's supporting the guys in what they do. At the end of the day, he's a great coach. He's always been great coach, only because he has the right attitude."
